Update: After Kiko Kostadinov and ASICS' GEL-FLAMME collaboration was leaked earlier in the week, the longtime collaborators have officially announced the silhouette, revealing both its inspirations and release date. Referencing a duo of archival ASICS models — namely the GEL-WAHINE II and the GEL-NETBURNER IGS II — the GEL-FLAMME spotlights elongated iterations of ASICS' familiar racing stipes and lacing track as well as other details like an extended toe bumper, floral traction pattern and two-tone laces.
Though the above-mentioned silhouettes served as the overall aesthetic inspiration for the GEL-FLAMME, a literal nod to the GEL-KIRIL is seen on the shoe's tooling, which is upgraded with modern Flitefoam Propel cushioning. This works with the brand's signature GEL cushioning, done up with a pearlescent sheen, and durable AHARPLUS heel plug for high-end cushioning that matches the technical look. Color-wise, the GEL-FLAMME has been produced in a muted "Gunmetal" and a bold "Mako Blue."
The shoe's inspirations are further encapsulated in its accompanying photographic campaign, shot by British lenswoman Rosie Marks in Australia, the home country of GEL-FLAMME designers Laura and Deanna Fanning. The playful images show the growth of netball by spotlighting it in a location thousands of miles from its home country.
Expect the Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS GEL-FLAMMAE to release via the ASICS webstore and at select stockists July 19. The MSRP is set at $209 USD.
Original Story: Bulgarian designer Kiko Kostadinov collaborates once again with Japanese brand ASICS to introduce a brand new sneaker silhouette: the GEL-FLAMMAE. This new model reflects Kostadinov's innovative vision, with input from Laura and Deanna Fanning, the sister duo directing his womenswear line.
A leaked Instagram post reveals two colorways for the model. One features blue with silver ASICS Tiger Stripes, while the other combines silver and grey with green accents. Both designs embody the partnership's signature fashion-forward, futuristic aesthetic. It has been confirmed that the GEL-FLAMMAE will be available at some point this summer, stay tuned for more release information coming soon.
