Update: Nike and UNION LA’s Field General Sneakers are slated to be released later this week, spanning three colorways. While official imagery for the “Ivory” variant has yet to be fully unveiled, the black and shimmer-hued colorways can be viewed in the gallery above. The sneakers will be released altogether with the Union U capsule collection via UNION LA’s official website.
Update: A first look at the forthcoming Union LA x Nike Field General has been revealed, and it looks almost nothing like the 1982 football cleat that inspired it. Shown in photos from sneaker leaker @kicksdong, the revamped design offers a much more lifestyle-ready ethos, like a vintage turf trainer that's simultaneously stripped back to its core and bolstered with layered detailing.
The only details from the OG Field General — initially designed for and worn by NFL quarterbacks like Archie Manning and Dan Fouts — that appear unchanged are the exposed mesh toeboxes, quarter panels and tongues plus the slim heel collar. Apart from that, everything else is an artistic interpretation, like an abstract painter putting their spin on a carefully drawn portrait. An earthy brown and tan color scheme cut with hits of pink is spread across heavily layered paneling on the upper, and other details include heel tabs, an external heel counter, Union LA tags, co-branded midsoles and an interesting top eyelet secured by a textile strip that rises from the heel. A waffle-style traction pattern on the outsole wouldn't look out of place on an '80s turf shoe, but it's a far cry from the original's spikes.
At the time of writing, an official release date has yet to be spotlighted. However, this colorway of the Union LA x Nike Field General will likely touch down alongside other iterations sometime this summer. Read the original article below for more info, and stay tuned for further updates as they're made available.
Original Story: Hot off the heels of releasing its Footscape-inspired Air Jordan 1 High collaboration alongside Bephies Beauty Supply, Union LA is already thrusting itself back into the sneaker spotlight by teasing its next Nike project. The duo is on track to reunite during the summer of 2024 to deliver another collection that's centered around the Nike Field General. The archival model was initially introduced around '82 as a turf shoe for football players, and Union's team-up will be part of the sneaker's first-ever retro run.
Images of the LA-based streetwear retailer's versions have yet to surface, but the gallery above showcases a vintage pair on eBay. It's constructed with low-top build and comes pieced together with breathable mesh uppers that are accompanied by smooth leather overlays around the toe boxes, adjacent to the laces and on the lower heels. One fun fact about the Field General is that a promotional poster from its initial rollout featured star Swoosh-sponsored NFL quarterbacks like Archie Manning and Dan Fouts.
Release dates and leaked imagery will likely surface in the coming months, so keep it locked and we'll be sure to update you once we receive those.
For other news, more images of the Nike KD 16 "Aunt Pearl" have surfaced.
