The summer of football is officially underway with the Euros now in full swing. To commemorate the sport's influence on fashion and footwear, Nike has released a new colorway to the Air Max Plus Tiempo. The shoe joins the Swoosh's 25th anniversary celebration of the Air Max Plus, by conflating the latter silhouette with the Tiempo's iconic lace flap typically set on football boots.
Joining the black iteration, the "Wolf Grey" colorway is constructed with a supple leather upper that is complemented by a subtle stitching that mirrors the original Air Max Plus' cagey TPU wave pattern. Further details include a black Swoosh that contrasts well against the silver base of the sneaker, all atop a plush black midsole with four air units of varying sizes.
The football-fashion dichotomy can often feel forced today with so many collaborations coming out, but Nike's Air Max Tiempo crossover feels like a shoe that has always been around — something familiar and entirely new at the same time, channeling the nostalgia of the early boots donned by Ronaldinho, Puyol and countless others, but made with universal appeal for football and non-football fans alike.
The Air Max Plus "Wolf Grey" will release next month for $190 USD on Nike and select retailers.
