The name Caitlin Clark is quickly becoming one of the most recognized names in world of basketball. The now Indiana Fever rookie was recently the No. 1 pick in this week's WNBA draft. In addition to her professional success, the young phenom is slated to receive a signature Nike shoe.
The Athletic's Shams Charania, Mike Vorkunov and Ben Pickman reported that sources have said that Under Armour and adidas were contenders to land Clark, make sizable offers to the young player. However, Clark had an initial relationship with Nike, though it recently ended due to her finishing college basketball season. According to sources closer to the deals, Steph Curry who launched Curry Brand with Under Armour, was an active participant in the company's meeting with Clark.
Prior to the WNBA, Clark garnered national fans from new to college fans as a star player at the University of Iowa. Breaking records, Clark is now widely regarded as one of the female athletes continuing to propel the sport forward. The 22-year-old begins her WNBA career as a part of the Fevers. She is expected to land one of the most lucrative sneaker deals in the WNBA on top of already having endorsement deals with Gatorade, State Farm and Panini.
It remains to be seen when her signature shoe will launch.
