Nike might have just teased San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama's new "Alien" logo. LeBron James bestowed the "Alien" nickname to the rookie during a press conference in 2022. Speaking on Wemby's basketball abilities, James said at the time, "Everybody's been a unicorn over the last few years, but he’s more like an alien. No one has ever seen anyone as tall but as fluid & graceful on the floor as he is… He’s for sure a generational talent." Overtime, the nickname stuck with Wemby, even leading to fans calling him "Alien."
On the day of the total solar eclipse, Nike Basketball posted a video to their social media accounts with a new logo that seemingly gives a nod to the rookie. Wemby had already signed with Nike ahead of joining the NBA and while he was playing for France. While he does not have his own signature shoe, he has been wearing custom Nike GT Hustles. Recently, he debuted his new "Alien" Nike GT Hustle 2 PEs as a nod to his nickname. Now it appears that the nickname is turning into his personal brand.
The video teaser released by Nike takes fans "Somewhere In South Texas," a hint at the San Antonio Spurs. A new alien logo appears in the field, taking on the basketball and Swoosh motifs to create the moniker. The teaser does not reveal if it has any connection to Wemby, but based on all the clues stung together, it could just be Nike's teaser to bigger things for the French NBA rookie. Take a look at the video below and stay tuned.
