Richard Connell “Rich” Rooney, Chief Operations & Logistics Officer at PlayMonster, died unexpectedly on March 27 at the age of 53.
Rooney joined PlayMonster as Director, Global Sourcing & Project Management in 2021 before becoming Chief Operations & Logistics Officer. The PlayMonster team notes that he made an immediate impact during his tenure thanks to his unique talents, passion, and unwavering commitment to every project.
“Not only was he a valued member of our team — a beacon of positivity, dedication, and professionalism — but his unbridled love of toys was clear throughout his years with Hasbro, Zizzle, Ridemakerz, and of course, PlayMonster, altogether making him a leader in his field,” says a spokesperson for PlayMonster. “He touched the lives of everyone he encountered, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion.”
The PlayMonster team extends its condolences to Rooney’s family and loved ones via LinkedIn.
Rooney was born in Racine, Wisconsin, and is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years Erika, son Connell John, daughter Colleen Erin, and his bulldog Dudley Diggs.
Visitation will be at Maresh Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home on Wednesday April 3 starting at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Austin Bulldog Rescue in remembrance of Rooney’s love for bulldogs.
