Vintage Seiko UFO 6138-0011
Welcome to the “mostly Seiko eBay Finds”. Like most things in this world, good watch auctions can come in groups, such as this week! I wasn’t particularly looking for Seikos, but I found several for your bidding pleasure. First up is this vintage 1971 Seiko “UFO” 6138-0011 chronograph. This is a unique Seiko chronograph, and one that is easy to recognize with its big round case (hence the UFO moniker). The black dial is nice and clean and looks great with the up/down big eye look with the larger 6 o’clock subdial. The pushers on this model are also unique, with piston-like engraved grooves. This watch would’ve originally come on a Seiko bracelet, but the rally style strap it’s on works well. Overall the watch is in good shape, with an unpolished case and clean dial, hands and bezel. Runs well per the seller but no movement picture.
Seiko 5 Sports 7019-7050
The next Seiko up is this nice vintage 1972 Seiko 5 Sports 7019-7050. This is a great looking sport watch, with a large, 39mm wide round-ish steel case that has a wide beveled bezel. It almost looks like a diver, but it has no diver’s bezel, external or internal. The dial is black with a nice white dashed inner track and bold steel hands with a bright orange seconds hand. Ubiquitous Seiko day/date window at 3 o’clock. The case looks unpolished with the original finish and crisp edges, and the dial is in great condition. The bracelet on this is not original, but it does look good with the watch. Great Seiko sport watch that is not a common one to find. Seller states it runs well but no movement picture.
Vintage 1950s Bulova
Next, a couple for a Seiko intermission. First is this vintage 1967 Bulova. The 30mm steel case has nice fancy lugs, and is unpolished with sharp edges. The case is nice, but the dial is the hero on this one. The gold dial has an intricate linen texture, with stylized arrow markers along with a 12 and a 6. The dial is nicely complemented by lume filled dauphine hands. Simple, yet stylish and elegant. This one is powered by a nice, clean 17 jewel automatic Bulova caliber 11ALAC movement that runs well per the seller. Should be a nice one that won’t break the bank.
Vintage Gallet Yachting Big Eye
This vintage Galley yachting “big eye” chronograph is a real looker. The unpolished 36mm stainless steel case is standard chronograph style, with nice lugs that have sharp chamfers. The dial is a real stunner, black with two chrono subdials at 3 and 9, with the 3 o’clock dial significantly larger than the 9 o’clock, giving it that highly desired “big eye” look. The 3 o’clock subdial also has red and blue sectors against a white background. The white lume filled hands make for easy time reading. The watch comes on a non-original beads of rice bracelet. This beauty is powered by a manual wind Landeron caliber 149 movement that is clean and runs well per the seller.
Seiko 6139-8001 Speed-Timer
Back to Seiko, with this vintage 1970 Seiko 5 Sports Speed-Timer 6139-8001. The chunky cushion-y style case looks unpolished with the original brushed finish. The bezel is a plain black instead of a tachymeter which is unusual. The black dial is clean, with lots of writing owing to the super long model name. The seller states the watch works well, but the chronograph pushers stick. This is common with these old Seiko chronographs as the pusher gaskets harden with age and can get stuck. This is an easy fix (you can trim the gaskets or replace them), but it is something to consider if bidding on this one. Despite this consideration, I wanted to bring this to our readers because cosmetically this watch is in great condition and is not a common model.
Seiko 6106-8237 Diver
One more Seiko to finish this week’s Seiko-palooza! A really nice vintage 1971 6106-8237 sport watch with brilliant blue dial. This has another large 39mm chunky steel case that is unpolished and has a great steel bezel. Again, no diver’s bezel, but this watch was rated to 70m water resistance which would have worked to swim with. The dial is a deep sky blue with large lume plots for your markers and lume filled steel hands and of course the day/date window at 3 o’clock. Finally we have one with the correct, original bracelet which is always a big bonus. No movement picture but runs per the seller.
