Proving imaginative play never has to end, Crayola Studios, Mimo Studios, and Like a Photon Creative (LAPC) will produce a new film based on the hit children’s novel Maggie and Abby’s Neverending Pillow Fort. Written by Will Taylor, the book was published in 2018 by Harper Collins.
“Building pillow forts is a beloved creative childhood experience. We knew right away that we wanted to help bring this wonderful story to the screen,” says Victoria Lozano, EVP of Crayola. “The central concept of kids exploring the limitless bounds of their imaginations aligns with Crayola Studios’ creative principles. We are very excited to continue our relationship with MIMO Studios and to join Like a Photon Creative to bring this epic imaginary adventure to life.”
The film is the second project between Crayola and Mimo Studios. Maggie and Abby’s Neverending Pillow Fort emphasizes the former’s commitment to creating and producing creative content for children. Mimo Studios and LAPC previously partnered to produce The Pout-Pout Fish. Adapted from the best-selling franchise, it stars Nick Offerman, Amy Sedaris, and Jordin Sparks; it premieres later this year. Maggie and Abby’s Neverending Pillow Fort begins production in Australia this month.
“The two companies are uniquely aligned in both creative vision and business acumen and can’t wait to add Crayola’s talent and insight on this exciting new adventure,” says Nadine Bates from Like a Photon Creative.
“We have created an innovative, differentiated model that maximizes a project’s likelihood to be greenlit and produced in the current environment,” says Cyma Zarghami, Mimo’s Founder and CEO. “We look forward to progressing with this promising project and brand partnership, and to continuing to use this repeatable model to create other equally exciting films.”
