Feel fast, fierce and free to go the distance in the adidas Adizero Evo SL running shoes like the Hypebeast Run Club.
In early October, our grassroots running group laced up adidas’ latest speed-inspired shoe for their monthly after-work meetup of 3-5 mile runs. For the fast training runs, the Adizero Evo SL supplied style and support, the latter in the form of the full-length high-stack Lightstrike Pro midsole. As the group gained speed during their rapid running session to and from the East River and across the Manhattan Bridge, the sleek silhouette’s bold black stripes – adidas’ signature symbol – blurred with each stride.
A minimalist model, the Adizero Evo SL’s design details go beyond the soft surface. Aside from crisp, clean lines and a white finish – inspired by the road racing aesthetic of the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 – the Adizero Evo SL takes the title as the lightest trainer in adidas’ inventory of running shoes, weighing approximately 188g for women and 224g for men. Although the new lightweight addition to adidas’ lineup releases in a limited drop on October 25 (sign-ups starting October 21) and once again in February 2025, as part of a larger launch, the Hypebeast Run Club took the shoes for a spin ahead of this month’s product drop.
Together, the creative collective of the Hypebeast Run Club – hailing from all five boroughs – hit the streets of New York City in the running trainers for a fast-paced workout. Leaving the office behind, staff members, including Tyler Mason and Bryan Leon – Bronx residents and natives – put their best foot forward to showcase their love of the sport and appreciation for each other.
“[HBRC] just happened organically,” Courtney Kenefick, Associate Creative Director at Hypebeast, shared. “It’s something we appreciate from both a physical and sartorial perspective. Running has obviously become a popular sport and hobby, but beyond that, its aesthetics – especially archival running footwear – has really informed style and fashion in recent years.”
The conception of the Hypebeast Run Club comes as part of the recent rise in run clubs nationwide, but more importantly, as an effort to foster workplace friendships outside of office hours. “[HBRC] is an opportunity for us to bond and blow off steam, not discuss projects and pitch decks,” Kenefick, a Brooklyn resident, continues. “HBRC is expanding beyond Hypebeast employees and I think the reason we’ve been able to do that is we laid the foundation of just good, casual, social vibes.”
With this month’s meetup at 41 Division, Hypebeast’s headquarters, the culture-cultivating creatives of the brand experienced the advanced attributes of the Adizero Evo SL that is as much of a game changer as its predecessor, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. Kenefick, Mason and Leon, and other –Hypebeast employees, including Brooklyn resident Logan Slater, Sarah Kearns of Staten Island, Nick Llanton and Ross Dwyer of Queens and Manhattan residents Liam Gavin and Yessy Zeng, all got a boost in their stride from the signature Adizero technology.
“The Adizero Evo SL was very supportive, which is especially important when running on NYC pavement,” Logan Slater, Director of Brand Partnerships, said. “As someone who has experienced a couple of running injuries, I am always cognizant of making sure I have the right sneakers. I need a light shoe that still provides cushion and ankle support and the Adizero Evo SL does just that as an everyday running shoe. It not only felt good – but it looked good.”
