ASICS has teamed up with Brazilian fashion brand P. Andrade to launch a fresh take on the iconic GEL-KAYANO® 14. This collaboration draws inspiration from an unexpected source—a small Amazon forest beetle, the Lamprocyphus Augustus. The new design will be available starting August 30 and aims to blend fashion with innovation, offering a unique perspective on footwear design. This partnership marks another chapter in ASICS’ long-standing tradition of pushing boundaries in the sportstyle segment.

The GEL-KAYANO® series, originally developed in 1993 by designer Toshikazu Kayano, has a history steeped in comfort, stability, and innovation. The shoe’s exoskeletal structure, dual-density midsole, and cutting-edge Mono-Tongue System have made it a standout in the ASICS lineup for over 30 years. With each new iteration, the GEL-KAYANO® evolves, incorporating modern technologies while maintaining its iconic legacy. This latest edition, crafted in collaboration with P. Andrade, continues that evolution with a striking new look inspired by the beetle’s metallic colors and natural beauty.

Founded by designers Pedro Andrade and Paula Kim, P. Andrade is known for its contemporary luxury and innovative approach to fashion. For Andrade, working with ASICS on the GEL-KAYANO® 14 felt like a natural fit. The shoe’s sophisticated aesthetic and intricate design aligned seamlessly with the brand’s own values. The choice of the Amazon beetle as a central theme came from in-depth research into Brazilian wildlife, where the beetle’s unique qualities, including its potential connection to photonic crystals, sparked the design team’s imagination.

The collection doesn’t stop at shoes. Alongside the new GEL-KAYANO® 14, the collaboration includes a line of apparel inspired by the beetle’s anatomy. Featuring t-shirts, pants, and a jacket, the clothing line blends casual comfort with subtle references to the insect’s shape and movement. As ASICS’ marketing director Constanza Novillo explains, collaborations like this allow the brand to explore new perspectives and keep their products fresh and relevant. The collection invites consumers to see beauty in the unexpected and to pay closer attention to the small wonders of nature.
