The company behind The Toys That Made Us and A Toy Store Near You is making waves at retail.
Nacelle, the growing media and consumer products outfit behind the relaunches of RoboForce, Biker Mice From Mars, and Sectaurs, teamed up with Culturefly to create a branded retail experience at Walmart.
Last week, more than 2,000 Walmart stores began hosting a branded collection of products inspired by iconic films featured in Nacelle’s Netflix series, The Movies That Made Us. At launch, the branded display features new toys and collectibles in a variety of new form factors, including Nooks — decorative book nooks; 3Deep — sculpted 3D versions of retro VHS covers that can be hung on a wall or displayed on a flat surface; Clingers — retro scene-building sets using vinyl cling decals; and an expansion of Culturefly’s Tinymights figurines.
In the months ahead, the collection will grow to include products based on Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Friday the 13th, Child’s Play, Gremlins, and more.
“The teams at Walmart and Culturefly have been fantastic partners in this venture to preserve pop-culture and nostalgia for generations that were ‘made by’ these iconic films and shows."
Each of the new items is exclusive to Walmart and includes a code for consumers to enjoy a free movie rental from Fandango at Home.
“The collectibles business continues to create excitement as brands tap into more ways to engage fans outside of a theater and away from their screens,” says Frank Barbieri, Vice President of Content and Digital Merchandise at Walmart U.S.
Nacelle is off to a big start this year with the debut of its new series, Up For Auction (read an interview with Volk-Weiss and host Chris Hardwick at our sister publication, The Pop Insider) and the launch of its Nacelleverse initiative of connected storytelling across comics, animation, and toys.
The first shipment of Nacelle’s Biker Mice From Mars arrived in the U.S. this week and is expected to begin shipping to specialty retailers shortly.
