Ultra-distance runner and explore Ray Zahab and norda have come together for a new colorway of the norda 001. Dubbed "Magma," the fresh release marks the third palette Zahab and the brand have created together after a bright blue 001 "Azure" in February 2023 and a bold "Orange" in April 2022.
Debuted on the feet of norda's elite 665 running team at the recent Black Canyon ultramarathon, the "Magma" draws its name from the liquid hot red strip slashed across its midfoot. White and black shades take up the majority of space on the rest of the upper, and are also bookended by a silver heel and a rock-colored toebox.
This rock-like shade, potentially inspired by hardened, cooled magma, appears once again on the midsole, where it's joined by black-speckled detailing. Black outsoles and red insoles with a custom Ray Zahab stamp complete the shoe's aesthetic — and, as is par for the course on the 001, the technical specs are off the charts thanks to a nearly indestructible Dyneema upper, custom Dyneema laces and eTPU insoles and even Vibram-designed midsoles and outsoles that feature SLE, Litebase and Megagrip technology, respectively. Zahab noted in a comment on the norda Instagram that the sales of his 001 collaborations support his impossible2Possible organization and the free youth expeditions they organize.
At the time of writing, a release date for the Ray Zahab x norda 001 "Magma" has yet to be revealed. It's likely to touch down in the coming weeks though, and will retail for $295 USD.
