“Watches, Stories, and Gear” is a roundup of our favorite content, watch or otherwise, from around the internet. Here, we support other creators, explore interesting content that inspires us, and put a spotlight on causes we believe in. Oh, and any gear we happen to be digging on this week. We love gear.

An Unusual Honda S2000 Watch

Watches and cars get mixed up together in all kinds of ways. Of all the enthusiast pursuits that are tangentially related to watches, car enthusiasm is probably the one with the most overlap on the Venn Diagram. Automobile inspired watches are nothing new, but the Honda S2000 watch seen here on The Drive’s IG feed is a particularly fun take on the genre. Rather than take design cues from a gauge (all too common, in our opinion) this one is actually shaped like a little Honda S2000. The small roadster might be the perfect vehicle for a watch in this format. I mean, could you imagine strapping a G Wagon to your wrist? No thanks,

A Complete Guide to Xenomorphs

Yes, this is the second week in a row where we’re bringing you Alien content in this column. We can’t help ourselves, it’s simply one of our favorite sci-fi franchises, and with a new entry in the saga arriving in theaters this weekend, the internet is full of Alien related clickbait. Well, we’re clicking so you don’t have to, and we’re here to tell you that real fans should head over to IGN for a fairly exhaustive breakdown of all the Xenomorphs and aliens from each film in the series. Like a well attended watch meetup, there’s a ton of variety here, and it’s worth getting reacquainted with some of the most terrifying (and grossest) creatures in the galaxy before checking out Alien: Romulus this weekend.

“Seinfeld Night” with the Brooklyn Cyclones

You may have seen clips on social media of the absolutely insane and now quite famous “Elaine Dance Contest” held annually at Maimonides Park, the Coney Island home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. The event is part of “Seinfeld Night,” an annual promotional event run at the park during a Cyclones game, now in its tenth year. One of the great things about taking in a minor league baseball game is that in addition to professional baseball, teams will often have programming that feels like a classic variety show between innings to raise money or promote a partner, and “Seinfeld Night” is one of the best examples. In addition to the dance content, attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite Seinfeld characters, and there are always special guests on hand to sign autographs and meet with attendees. The New York Times has the full story here.

IndieWire Celebrates “2000s Week”

Here’s one for the elder millennials: IndieWire has a ton, and we mean a ton of great content celebrating “2000s Week.” There’s a lot to sift through, including a look at the best scores of the decade, a great piece on filmmaker Todd Field, who started the decade as a journeyman actor and wound up making a trio of modern classics as a director, and of course there’s an exhaustive list of the best films of the decade, pulled together by IndieWire’s staff. A movie lover of a certain age could spend the entire weekend digging through this material and putting together quite a watch list.

The Best Field Recorders

If you deal with audio recordings in your professional or personal life in any meaningful way, you have probably discovered that the simple voice recorder built into your phone leaves a lot to be desired in terms of audio quality. For anyone with either a regular or occasional need to capture audio out in the world, Wired has put together a list of the very best field recorders that can help you do just that, with a significant leg up in terms of quality over the communications device in your pocket. Whether you’re recording a podcast, a college lecture, a concert, or you’re just a hobbyist, there are lots of uses for these devices, so this guide is worth taking a look at.
