Early last year, UK retailer Offspring was crowned the winner of adidas Consortium's first-ever Cup tournament. The sneaker design competition saw 16 retailers from around the globe battle in a four-round match, with shops eliminated in every band determined by public voting. While the final round saw two British retailers compete, London's Offspring ultimately won after designing four distinct kicks.
After four stages and putting their spin on the adidas Samba, adidas Centennial Low, and adidas' ZX8000, Offspring blended the adidas Response CL with Raf Simons' RS OZWEEGO to create the "Offspring OFFS-weego" in the final showdown. The shoe has finally come to life, seeing the light-hued pair honor Britian's discontinued £1 note.
The hybrid model recalls the £1 note no longer in circulation, similar to the RS OZWEEGO, which was recently discarded alongside the designer's namesake label. The beige, brown, and grey palette mimics the internal walls of the Bank of England, while mesh Response CL uppers maintain subtle OZWEEGO piping blended with grooved panels, adding brightness to the cream base. Holographic Offspring logos and engraved serial numbers copy bill designs stacked atop three-dimensional two-toned outsoles.
Take a closer look at the Offspring x adidas Response RS OZWEEGO "£1 Note" in the gallery above. It will launch in-store and online via Offspring on August 3 for £140 GBP (approximately $180 USD).
